Prodigal's Story                                                                  Where street credibility meets academic legitimacy.

The Company

Prodigal Publishing marks 2007 as its first year of existence. We are a small publishing firm, getting established two years earlier than planned as a result of overwhelming positive feedback from mentors, peers and readers. Our publishing firm's brand grew out of the graduate project of Prodigal's Ms. Williams. Prodigal is strictly about the underdog, the maverick, the wild card. In forming our brand we wanted to stay true to who we are while promoting excellence in our work. You can read the story of our branding here.

Prodigal's Outlook

Prodigal is in the stages of development for its two debut titles. During this period, we seek to build on line readership to get the word out about our firm. Our first goal is to share information about the publishing industry, to encourage writers and artists to find their voice, and to promote the fluid tenacity of the underdog.

The People

Current business trends are marked by leadership of individuals with multiple skills. As businesses continue to grow, integration of skill sets across societal lines are becoming more and more prevalent. At Prodigal, our leadership has proven itself on the street, in the classroom, and in professional fields. We work together with an understanding that knowledge comes from experiences unrestricted to any institution.

Damilya Marie Damilya Marie started her career as an editor more than ten years ago. As an avid reader of historical romance novels, her desire to have a world free of typos, faulty grammar, and convoluted plot lines became her purpose in life. Not only does Ms. Marie edit dozens of books, she edits magazine articles, business correspondence, academic essays and other forms of technical communication. She proofreads with impressive accuracy; something she proudly describes as “her civic duty to the literary community”. Ms Marie is a hard working, practical woman who stays abreast of our reader’s ever-changing needs. She doesn’t tolerate mediocridty--she finds the word almost as repugnant as the word "unremarkable". When it comes to distinction, Ms. Marie is the foremost expert. As Prodigal's Editor-In-Chief, Ms. Marie will ensure the accuracy, elegance, and immediate relevance of information we disseminate to our readers.

Diane Williams Diane Williams, managing partner of Prodigal Publishing started producing books when she was just a pre-teen. “I’ve always loved everything about books. The words printed on the page, the way they are made, and the information they carry have affected my life tremendously.” Ms. Williams has a reputation for setting trends by being the “first” to break out of the pack. She was the first black student to break a century-long tradition of Chinese Valedictorians. She was also the first student in her elementary school to participate in the International Baccalaureate program. Although she her home was 44 West, in Harold Ickes projects of Chicago, she was the first in her neighborhood to graduate with an IB diploma and to travel around the world. Ms. Williams has built a solid reputation as a “go-getter”. Her years of experience in the publishing and writing span industries from high finance to social education. With her determination and great work ethic, Prodigal is bound to succeed.
