WELCOME TO PRODIGAL!

Thank you for visiting Prodigal. We invite you to look around. We hope to give you something to think about, a place to find information, or place a to come and be entertained.

Our Mission

Prodigal's mission is to meet the needs of our readers through publishing while supporting writers and families with young authors.

Prodigal mission is carried out with two objectives: publishing and teaching. What we publish is as important as why we publish. Prodigal's requirement for each published book lies in its purpose. Each story unfolds in such a way that provokes the reader to think or to see something we have previously taken for granted. Prodigal doesn’t publish for the sake of publishing. We publish so that we may give voice to those that have none. With our publications, we seek to touch lives, one perspective at a time.

In teaching families with young writers, Prodigal carries on a living tradition where peers teach peers. We seek to educate families with young authors by bringing transparency to the publishing industry, which opens up the world of publishing to families in a way that brings positive changes to their outlook for their children's writing.

Partnerships

At Prodigal, collaborative partnerships lie at the foundation of our business. Partnerships foster ownership for those who find courage to create. People who create are ones who make a difference. Prodigal’s partnerships are built on business and personal relationships with people around the world. Our partners are writers, painters, journalists, musicians, teachers, actors, composers, and thinkers from all walks of life.

The publishing industry is a multi-faceted industry with a potential for growth. Prodigal Publishing believes that we can grow as long as we remain versatile, focused, and stay in tune with the needs of our writers, our teaching clients and our readers.

PUBLISHER SPEAK
"We need to send galleys."

This is a statement publishers often make when they are planning to have a book reviewed by reviewers such as the New York Times.

Galley is an older industry term referring to a bound copy of the manuscript while in pre-publication status.

Galleys do not usually include jacket covers and the manuscript may still contain grammatical errors or typos which are scheduled to be removed during production.

Advanced Reader Copy is a term becoming more commonly used in place of "galley".  ARCs can have cover art attached, but such art is not usually the final jacket cover. ARCs are usually sent to the reviewer up to six months ahead of publication date.  ARCs are often distributed at trade shows such as  Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association's Fall and Spring shows.
